Ignite Newsletter - Sept 2025

God is Moving at PLU

Eighty of us gathered last fall—some of my best friends and partners in this mission. Out of that night, more than 30 became new supporters, now grown to 40! Your generosity relaunched Ignite with fresh momentum and has opened the door for everything you’ll read in this update: students discipled, the Gospel boldly shared, unity among ministries, and even new partnerships beginning on other campuses. You are part of this fruit, and we are so grateful to share in it together with the Lord.

God Is Moving at PLU — And the Need Has Never Been Greater

Hai grew up in Vietnam in an atheist home. Though he had met Christians, no one had ever shared the Gospel with him. But alone in his room, halfway across the world, God met him. After searching online for the meaning of life, Hai encountered Jesus, surrendered his life, and began following Him—ordering a Bible off Amazon and growing in faith with no one to guide him. Months later, Hai arrived at PLU, and in his first week, God led him to us. We paired him with a mentor, and since then, he’s been baptized and boldly shared his new faith with his family. Hai’s story is a miracle—and a reminder of how deeply new believers need community, discipleship, and connection to the Church.

Tyler came to PLU with a vision from God: students worshiping Jesus in the middle of campus. When what he saw in the Spirit didn’t match what he saw on campus, he stepped out in faith. He stood where he’d seen the vision, journal in hand with the words “I have good news.” One by one, students came up to him—forty in total—and Tyler shared the Gospel with each of them. Many had never heard it before. We’ve been walking with Tyler as he continues to grow in boldness and compassion, learning how to lead others in truth and love. His story shows what God can do through one obedient heart—and how vital it is that we equip students to share Jesus with clarity, humility, and power.

Christian students from multiple clubs came together in unity—unity stirred by the Holy Spirit—to host the most powerful worship night we’ve seen yet. Backed by local churches and led by students hungry for more of Jesus, the Gospel was proclaimed, students responded, and five were baptized right there on campus that night.

What followed was celebration. Tears. Laughter. Worship. Transformation.

This wasn’t a moment manufactured by people—it was birthed by the Holy Spirit, who is drawing students to Jesus, stirring boldness, and knitting together a unity that only God can create. And while the night was unforgettable, it also revealed something urgent: the need for intentional discipleship.

A Space to Come and See

One of the ways we’re responding to this hunger is through a monthly gathering we call Come and See. Each month at Trinity Lutheran Church, students and local church families share a meal, hear testimonies, and build real relationships. It’s a bridge between campus and the Body of Christ—helping students find a home in the wider church community.

These evenings are quickly becoming a vital part of our discipleship rhythm. With students arriving back on campus next week, our first fall gathering will be on September 6th at 4:30pm. We’d love for you to join us in welcoming them back with hospitality and connection.

Looking Ahead: Thanksgiving Hospitality

Many of the students we serve are from other nations, and they won’t have the opportunity to travel home during the holidays. We’re prayerfully looking for a handful of families who would be willing to open their homes and host an international student (or two) for Thanksgiving this year. Keep in mind, many of the countries represented are “closed” countries, meaning that they restrict the spread of the Gospel. This is a huge opportunity. If you’re interested, please reply and let us know—we’ll coordinate the rest.
